Emerging Leaders

Designed for Rising Stars

Career-changing professional development for rising leaders, the Emerging Leaders Program is built on a framework of civic knowledge, transformational leadership skill development, and hands-on community engagement.

Our Strengths

Strong communities require leaders who are connected, knowledgeable, and targeted in their efforts to create positive change.

Cross-sector

All three sectors — government, nonprofit, and business — must work together to find innovative solutions to problems.

Diverse

The people of San Mateo County must see local leaders as a reflection of their communities, as representatives who understand their concerns and challenges.

Countywide

A countywide approach to civic leadership development is the right solution for San Mateo County.

What People Say About Us

Leadership programs are a great experience. Leadership Council SMC is doing something special with their immersion programs — they are changing people’s lives. My employees come out of their programs energized. I’ve seen them double down on the work they are doing. I will keep sending people every year. I would send all my employees if I could.

Matthew Chidester

City Manager, City of Half Moon Bay

I met so many phenomenal people through Leadership CORPS from a wide variety of public, private, and nonprofit agencies across the County. Beyond an introduction, Leadership CORPS created an opportunity for me to establish relationships that have really expanded my network of community problem solvers. This has been a two-way street in which program alumni feel comfortable reaching out to me, and vice versa!

Sharon Ranals

City Manager, City of South San Francisco

Recent events have highlighted the urgency of strong, engaged, local communities, and Leadership Council San Mateo County is designed to foster just that, by weaving together emerging and established leaders from across all sectors.
